Knowledge Network vs Expert Network

Knowledge Management vs Knowledge Holders Management

The difference is in the content.

Knowledge Network is more comprehensive and flexible structure compared to the Expert Network.

Knowledge Network is the "physical" reflection of the associative conceptual networks of the participants into Unified Conceptual Space.

Expert Network is author-centric. Knowledge is a property of the expert node in the network.

Knowledge on the subject is scattered in the Network, not analyzed, not structured, difficult to find.

Author therefore can potentially put any kind of information about himself, including his contribution to a field of knowledge of his expertise, that may be difficult to confirm.

Expert Networks are suitable for organizing the processes of data and knowledge gathering and problem solving rather than a tool for the Real Time Decision Making.

Knowledge Network is resource and problem-centric. It is more adequate to the Goals of Technology of Research. It accumulates and arranges information, i.e. data, beliefs, knowledge, best practices, etc. (=resources) of any kind and from different sources to make the Real Time Decision Making possible.

(Co-)author is a property of a knowledge node. A knowledge node is frequently the result of the analytical work on subject with the irrelevant information (= noise) filtered out, the relevant information structures and integrated into the Unified Conceptual Space.

Knowledge Network is a tool of Technology of Research and is more suitable for finding solutions in real time including building (self-organizing) Expert Networks and working groups for solving the problems yet to be resolved. See the FBIIMS Proposal.

Integrated Virtual Associative Network (not to confuse with the virtual associative networks) is the technology, practice, culture and result of building of the unified virtual collective mental space. The goals of IVAN are

  • to build the associative links between the relevant knowledge nodes and
  • to build the associative clouds around the "core" knowledge node. Subject, or a meaning the knowledge node represents can be described by different combination of keywords. Similarly, the same combination of keywords may represent different meaning and be linked with a number of different knowledge nodes. Moreover, the concepts can emerge as the results of the problem solving process. Associative clouds play a role of the "antenna of meaning" directing the association of the particular user to the meaning of his choice.

The rating of an author in Knowledge Network, contrary to the Expert Network, is deduced directly from the contribution of the author to the Knowledge Network to the selected particular area of expertise. See AIMS and Feedback Based Integrated Innovation Management System for more details on possible methods of rating.
