Derek Cabrera

I'd like to propose that we be more strict about the STN FB group and agree collectively that the purpose of this particular page is to discuss leadership issues of the STN and by implication not to post various things of interest to systems thinking, systems sciences, etc. The other lists in the STN provide a good venue for articles and posts of interest, but this group was originally intended to be for discussions related to the leadership of those groups (management, design, issues, logistics, etc.).

Derek Cabrera  We want STNL to be a place where leadership (and administrative) issues, both proactive and reactive, can be discussed

Christopher Chase The issue of "what leadership means," what is the purpose and potential of this group, is very important, and not yet clear to us.
Peter Jones David, I think we need to be more proactive than just administeringWe have the global connections, we just need the collective will power and skills to collaborate to be able to make a real difference.

If I could have easy access to funding for Gerald, for example, there are things we could actually do to make a difference.

Chad Thomas Green There are higher leverage points (degrees of freedom) besides rules. What is the goal of STN? Is it to manage our own affairs, or do we represent something more? A paradigm shift perchance? Are we happy with what we've created thus far? Are there other networks with which we could partner to double our strength in numbers?

M Ichael Josefowicz Chad Thomas Green great questions. I hope Derek Cabrera will weigh in to share his thoughts. "Are there other networks with which we could partner to double our strength in numbers?" is a good approach if we can figure out what we want to do.

IMO, there are hundreds of groups talking about teaching people a systems mindset. I've seen a few that seem to be doing good work on the ground.

Complex Adaptive System is a meme that continues to gain traction.

You ask "A paradigm shift perchance?" I suggest the paradigm shift is happening.

Maybe the right question is where can we engage to have the most effect given the resources we have.

One thought to share. I think that many folks on the thread are doing good work on the ground and are looking for funds and resources to augment that work. I have to believe that if we spent at least a thread or two brainstorming about how to overcome challenges and uncover the "low hanging fruit" it would produce real value.

Any thoughts if that might be one way to go?

"Are there other networks with which we could partner to double our strength in numbers?" How can the other networks be found from within the closed network/group? - DVS

The closed group is a feature not a bug. Consider it is a smallish world network with sort of a common language. Every "member" of the "group" has many weak links as well as being part of other small networks.

It's easiest to say in Nemetics. NCells that have lower friction to neme exchange, with far flung nStrings that might - or might not - resonate.

The key is Intentionality. It will be interesting to see how ti plays out.  MJ

Peter Jones My thing with the tech is to help collaborators realise their intent is important, by giving them a platform to see it happening, and be encouraged to try it for themselves.

But the ability to make small contributions in a meaningful way is important to that process ...

I like your suggestion on a starter project, I have some thoughts, good to share these with you.

Need to do some basic prototyping of my own first, more soon ...

M Ichael Josefowicz Peter Jones I think intent is has to come first.

Once it is clear the wonders of the internet makes it easy to collaborate. It all comes down to what people authentically want to make happen.

The nice thing about prototyping is that with the resour...See More

Leaders always need to stimulate participation, be that from employees or from network followers.

It is a very nice chart. There is another element that needs to be in place. The complex adaptive system reacts with the changing environment to creates affordances and constraints on the simple self organizing elements. On a wiki we are constrained by the -platform itself.
